One of the more popular amenities of the Borough is the Whitehall swimming pool. Originally proposed in 1956, it was not until 1963 that a consensus of Council was reached to construct the pool. Once the decision was made, the next steps were to find a suitable location and the necessary funds. With 14 acres of land available at what is now the municipal complex, choosing a site was relatively easy. In fact, the pool architect, Herold Bradley, who had designed over 100 municipal and private pools, described the location as unique in his experience due to its location on the top of a hill offering an unobstructed view of the surrounding area.

Following approval of the design, bids totaling $238,000 were opened February 19, 1964. Council approved a $222,000 bond issue to pay for the construction that same evening. The pool was officially dedicated and opened on May 29, 1965.

The pool was immensely popular from the start, so much so that it generated a surplus of funds that was later used to purchase an adjoining plot of land. A pool plaza, featuring gazebos and shuffleboard courts, was eventually built on the site. It was renamed the Edwin F. Brennan Plaza in 1998 in honor of the longtime councilman and mayor, an ardent supporter of the pool since its inception.

Over the years the pool has undergone a number of repairs and renovations. The most recent, in 2010, included replacement of the main drain box and a new coat of blue paint.

The pool no longer generates sufficient funds to pay for its operations, and much of its expenses are paid for from the general fund. It is for this reason that pool usage is restricted to Whitehall residents and their guests.

The pool opens on the Saturday before Memorial Day and closes on Labor Day.
