REAL ESTATE TAX

 

The Borough levies a real estate tax on all real property at the rate of 5.5 mills on each thousand dollars of assessed valuation. Real estate tax notices are issued on February 1st of each year. Taxpayers subject to this tax may take a 2.00% discount off the face amount of the tax by paying the amount due in full within the two-month discount period (February 1 – March 31). Taxes remaining unpaid on June 1 or later each year are subject to a penalty of 10.00% of the tax amount.

The Borough does participate in the Allegheny Regional Asset District Law (Act 77) tax relief program. To be eligible for Act 77 tax relief, the resident must qualify under all three requirements listed below.

  1. The individual must have owned and occupied a primary residence in Allegheny County continuously for the past 10 years.

  2. Must be age 60 or older, be a widow or widower aged 50 or older, or if permanently disabled, age 18 or older.

  3. May not have a total household income greater than $30,000. In calculating income, only 50% of Social Security, SSI and Railroad Retirement Benefits are counted as income.
